Wiring on panels

The side panels are being wired in place. They have been fiberglassed and then 2 additional coats of epoxy. Starting to get cold.....need wood sove in these days!!

Fiberglassing sides

I have been working slowly but surely on this boat. Fiberglassed the side panels last weekend, and now giving the additional coats of clear epoxy over top. I need to stitch them to the hull panels this week, and then put all the bulkheads in.

Working on centerboard.

This is very time consuming but fun and a learning experience. I have to get the lead insert in the centerboard flush. Using a plane to do this. Then need to fill in any low spots. In the meantime my shed is getting crowded, and Kepler is patiently overseeing the operation :) A couple of pics of myself and Raema's trip to Connecticut are included here also.

Pouring lead into keel

Just finished pouring the lead into the keel with Francis. Now have to start working on the centerboard.

Smelting Lead

I have been taking quite a bit of time off. I have smelted the lead for the keel over the last few Sunday afternoons with the help of my friend and metals expert, Francis Levangie. Hope to get back into the project in the coming weeks now that the cold weather is leaving.

OLD BLOG (July 2009)

Wednesday, July 29, 2009 No Time!! I was hoping to get more than this done. I'm off to Newfoundland to look into my family boatbuilding past for a few weeks. last work was to glue up half of the keel. Next need to coat the inside with epoxy and glue up the other side. When I get back hope to pour the lead. Found out why Dave had the problem with the curve in the keel. If the blocking goes from 3/4 to 1 and 1/2 up to the centerboard trunk and this is glued flat to the table then there will naturally be a curve. I hope that by putting a wedge under the keel while glueing will solve this....Will let you know!! What a marvelous noseblock I have planed!!
